After a stellar night of sleep by my child (by which I mean he nursed at 9:30, 12:30, 3:30 and 6:40, going right to sleep between each one, thereby allowing his mother to go right to sleep after each one) he has had a grumpy day. Lots of little naps and more frequent nursing with quite a few doses of crying thrown in. Mom and Dad are doing our best to soothe his woes. Unfortunately for Dad, one of his favorite things is to go up and down the stairs.
Another tactic is to listen to mellow music and dance with him. Twice today it calmed him from a raging scream. (In fact it is the only reason I can be posting right now as he is finally snoozing.) We've added to yesterday's playlist with the following:
The Reason - Hoobastank
Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word - Elton John
Run - Snow Patrol
Bullet and a Target - Citizen Cope
It's Been Awhile - Staind
You Know That I'm No Good - Amy Winehouse
Weather With You - Crowded House
Speed of Sound - Coldplay
Right now all of my boys are napping, scattered around the living room - Reno, Merle, Donavon and Revel. It's a very sweet scene.

Life with baby...
We have had more outings since last Wednesday. For his two week birthday we went for Revel's first meal at Chipotle. This weekend we had our first visitors, the Thorntons, stop by to meet the new cub.
Today, we went to the post office, the bank and most importantly, for a sit down lunch at Paper Moon Diner. Not bad. Revel slept almost the whole time - less than two hours.
As the days go on, Revel spends longer stretches of time awake and less time sleeping. It's great to see him alert and happy and looking at the world. Today during awake time we listened to music on the jukebox and danced together...here was our playlist:
Trouble - Cold Play
At Last - Etta James
In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel
Everybody Hurts - REM
In The Air Tonight - Phil Collins
While My Guitar Gently Weeps - The Beatles
Crash - Dave Matthews Band
South Side - Moby
Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone - Bill Withers
In other news - I have become proficient at typing with one hand while nursing. I am back walking and romping the dog, again. AND I registered for my first class. Yay. Environmental Health, starting Jan 20th, online.

Starbucks
Well, so far we have had FOUR outings in Revel's 13 day life. We went to the pediatrician when he was 4 days old. Then we went to my school orientation when he was 9 days old. Last night, at 12 days old, we went to Whole Foods for some cheese. And today, at 13 days old, we went off to Starbucks for a little decaf soy cappucino and muffin this morning. All of these trips are with my trusty Donavon along - I would not be doing this myself. The trip to the market and to Starbucks are strictly to help me stay sane. I get serious cabin fever without them. And it turns out, Revel loves to go in the car and see the world, so even he likes these little outings.
In other news, I remembered that I could finally have sushi again! I bought some last night and it was scrumptious.

Does Revel have an ear infection?
I was holding Revel when I noticed something green in his ear. Is it some kind of growth perhaps, common to newborns? Does Revel have an ear infection? Should I be on the phone with the pediatrician?
Here is an actual photo (ok, a simulation) of the offending mystery substance:
After further inspection, and removal, it was determined that the object was in fact a grain of green sugar that likely fell off of a Christmas sugar cookie during one of his Mother's 3am feedings. :)
Revel on the News – Part 2
I recorded this segment that aired on Christmas Day (Revel's birthday). It features Revel as one of the Baltimore Christmas babies. It is different that the one on WJZ.com.

Introducing Revel Carlberg West
Revel Carlberg West was born at 7:07am on Christmas Day. He weights in at a respectable 8 lbs 7 ozs and 21 inches long. Both baby and Mommy are doing fine. According to my count, he has 10 fingers and 10 toes, but we're having that looked into by a specialist. :)
